Can Glass Governor of Atlanta remove my existing glass?

This is a common question asked by our customers when we look to replace an existing shower enclosure with a  new one.
  1. Many times we are asked to remove an outdated framed shower and replace it with a frameless shower.  The old shower has metal framing that over time can stain the tile underneath.  If we remove the shower before we measure, this gives you the opportunity to have a professional come out and clean the surfaces before we arrive to install the new shower.
  2. There are existing holes used to anchor the existing shower in place that will be exposed when we remove it.  You may elect to have someone repair the holes (Unfortunately, we do not and is not part of our scope of work ).
  3. If not, this also exposes the holes and we can measure for a new enclosure to cover the holes the best we can.
  4. You may want to replace a curb or bench seat.  If the existing enclosure has a corian top, chances are it is heavily stained beyond repair.  You wouldn’t want a pretty new shower set on a yellowed top.  You may want to have the top replaced in which case we don’t want to measure for the shower right then and there as the new surface will be a different thickness.  We want to get the exact measurement to insure an exact fit.
  5. By removing the shower, we may expose some cracked tiles.  You may want to get these replaced before we show up to install your new shower enclosure.

How long does it take to produce and install my glass?

We are at the mercy of our vendors which is why we worked hard to build a great vendor supply chain. While we always quote for the best pricing possible, we also research to find the vendor with the best lead times at the time of your project. Lead times vary for different glass type installs. Generally, a safe lead time for Shower Door Enclosures is usually between 2-3 weeks from start to finish.

What is the best General Mainteance for Glass?

Depending on local conditions and minerals content, please follow the below cleaning guide to keep protected glass clean, and for removing buildup from the coated surface. Interior Glass such as shower glass Once a week or as needed for build-up, wipe down the glass with a microfiber cloth dampened with white vinegar and a drop of non-abrasive liquid soap (hand, body, or dish). Rinse and dry. Tip: For best results, wipe down the glass after each use with a good-quality squeegee. This will reduce mineral spotting, keeping the glass cleaner between cleans. Exterior Glass Clean as needed with a mild detergent and water using a t-bar mop assembly and squeegee. For light buildup wipe down the glass with a microfibre cloth dampened with white vinegar and a drop of non-abrasive liquid soap (hand, body, or dish). Rinse and dry. Tip: For best results, clean the glass when covered with shade to prevent streaking. In areas prone to salt build-up or dust build-up, rinse off excess contaminants with fresh water before cleaning.
What to avoid Note: These may damage the treatment and void any warranty
  • Abrasives including water spot removers, toothpaste, polishes, Norwex Cloths, rough, or gritty substances
  • Acids or Alkalis that you would not want in contact for your skin for an extended period of time
  • Cleaners that include Sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), bleach, tilex or anything with sodium hydroxide should not be used on your shower glass.
  • Harsh or chemical cleaners. With correct maintenance, these are not required.
Acceptable cleaning products While all that should be needed to keep the glass looking clean are a squeegee, good quality mild liquid soap, and white vinegar, occasionally we are asked to recommend specific products. Some major brand cleaners are listed below, but keep in mind they should not be necessary, and often have very limited benefits in removing either soap or mineral buildup.
  • SprayWayⓇ (or other alcohol-based foaming cleaners)
  • Scrubbing BubblesⓇ (or other automatic leave-to-dry daily shower cleaners)
  • 7th GenerationⓇ, DawnⓇ (or other mild eco-friendly cleaners)
  • CLRⓇ (Calcium Lime Rust)
  • Mr. Clean Magic EraserⓇ (when damp)
  • WindexⓇ (Standard, vinegar, alcohol, ammonia)
  • CRLⓇ Hi-Sheen Glass Foam Spray Cleaner

What is Safety Tempered Glass?

Tempered glass is one of the most common glass types used in architecture due to its thermal properties, safety, and durability. But do you know what it is and why it’s used? More importantly, when you need to use it? Learn everything you need from how it’s made, why it’s used, its capabilities, and facts you need to know. How is it Different?
  • Tempered glass is up to five times stronger than annealed glass of comparable size and thickness.
  • Tempered glass can also withstand high temperature changes of up to 482°.
  • Tempering the glass does not change any of the visual qualities of the glass such as solar radiance and light transmission.
  • Tempered glass is considered safety glass and is very difficult to break. If the glass is broken, it shatters into pebbles reducing the risk of serious injury.
  • Lastly, tempered glass cannot be cut or polished, or altered once it is tempered.

Do you offer Shower Cleaning Spot Treatment Protection for Glass?

Yes, for an additional charge, we can instruct our vendors to apply Factory Direct Spot Treatment to each panel of glass.

The most common types of spot treatments include:

• EnduroShield

• HMI c10 Microban

• ShowerGuard
